On June 12, 1921 a daughter was born to the late Nathan and Adell Marshall near Springhill, Alabama. She was their seventh child and was named after her paternal grandmother, the late Ida Mae Marshall. She will join her heavenly family who preceded her in death: son, Joe Nathan; daughter, Dr. Margie Wells-Davis; sisters, Anna Carthage, Lucille Rogers, and Mary Blackburn; brothers, Pete Marshall, John Henry Marshall, Lewis Marshall and James Marshall. She joined Springhill Baptist Church at an early age and later joined First Baptist Church where she was always involved in youth activities. Ida was educated in the Tuscaloosa County School System where she participated in 4-H and was a cheerleader. She remained an active member of the class of 1941 and dedicated to the Springhill Annual Memorial Celebration. She attended Stillman College. She married John Lyons and to this union, a son, Joe Nathan, was born. She later joined in Holy Matrimony to Gladstone E. Wells. To this union Margie and Ron were born. Gladstone later felt a call to the ministry and became a United Methodist Minister with his first appointment being assigned to Morrows Chapel in Marshalltown, Iowa. They later served at St. James UMC in Fulton, MO and Webster Groves UMC in Webster Groves, MO. She was ever by his side being his silent partner. Most of all, Ida was a dedicated Christian who cheerfully and wholeheartedly served the Lord. Ida advanced in her education and became a practical nurse in the Missouri State Mental System. After Rev. Wells was assigned to Gammon UMC in Chicago, she became a teacher’s aide in the Chicago Public School System. After losing her son, Joe and Gladstone, Ida retired and moved back to St. Louis. She joined North Park UMC. She later moved to Cincinnati, OH to be near Margie. There she joined Calvary UMC which later became her New Vision UMC family.
