Colleen Goodman

Ila “Colleen” Goodman, 87, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, May 20, 2024 at Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown under the care of Suncrest Hospice.

Services for Colleen will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 beginning at 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Memorials in Colleen’s name may be directed to the family for a later designation. Ila Colleen Meyer was born October 6, 1936 on the family farm in Rhodes, Iowa to parents Robert and Elsie (Dodge) Meyer. Colleen attended school in Rhodes, Iowa and graduated from Rhodes High School in the class of 1954.

She was united in marriage to Ray Goodman Jr on October 2, 1955 at the Baxter Congregational Church. Together they began a family of their own having two daughters, Laura and Tracy. They called Marshalltown their home during their entire lives. Colleen worked for Fidelity Savings Bank from May 1954 to November 1958. In addition, she worked part time for Renner’s Flowers from April 1974 to December 1984. In her later years, Colleen enjoyed being a volunteer to the Veterans out at the Iowa Veteran’s Home. She accumulated 4,735 hours as of April 21, 2009 and was recognized with the President’s Call of Service Award.

In her free time, Colleen enjoyed getting together with friends to dine out and with family to celebrate special occasions and reminiscing about farm life. She spent time making afghan blankets for her family and friends. She spent plenty of time outdoors gardening and was known to have a large garden for many years. She spent time on a bowling league in Marshalltown. Colleen and Ray loved to travel all the years they were together, they spent time going to all 50 states and traveled to Mexico and Canada.

Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, Laura (Don) Woollard and Tracy (Michael) Kupka; her grandchildren, Emily (Derek) Copeland, Eric (Jerusha) Woollard, Carissa (Ahren) Broad and Amanda Kupka; her great-grandchildren, Ayjer, Eli, Liam, Tobias and Meliah Woollard and Lily Copeland; and her brother, Harold Meyer.

She is preceded in death by her late husband Ray Goodman Jr. who passed in 2024; her parents Robert and Elsie Meyer; and siblings, Thelma Kelly and Russell Meyer.
