Ila Rook, 89, of Marshalltown, died Sunday, December 26th, at the MMSC.Memorial services will be held following cremation rites at 6:00 p.m. Thursday,December 30th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Immediately following the services, a luncheon will be held with the family. She will be laid to rest in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Haverhill. Born on May 7th, 1921, in St. Benedict, Iowa, she was the daughter of Paul and Mary (Lang) Erdman. She was raised in Iowa and was a 1939 graduate of St. Marys High School in Marshalltown.In 1941, the family moved to Minneapolis, MN and she became one of the first women machinists at General Mills. On June 9th, 1945, she was united in marriage to Gene V. Rook at St. Cecelias Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN. At the end of WWII, they returned to Marshalltown until moving to Lake Marie in Mercer, MO, in 1989. Mr. Rook preceded her in death on July 22nd, 1992.Ila was an active bowler from 1943 until her death. She loved doing crafts and making many things for family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Richard (Marlene; Mona) Rook of Marshalltown and Mary Sue (Jeffrey) Bond of Marshalltown, three grandsons: Brandon Rook of Kansas City, Bruce Rook (Kelley Kabrick) of Beaman and daughters Mercedes and Mya; Bryce Rook (Rhonda Auger) and children Jayden and Mahala of Missoula, Montana; granddaughters- Heather Rook (Joseph Robinson) and daughters McKaylee and Darian of Marshalltown, Brandy (Nick) Parcel and daughters Avery and Akaisha of Baxter; Mendy and daughter Blair and Darcy and daughter Savannah. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law Carol Erdman and children Tim and Sarah; and Lavonne Rook as well as nieces, nephews and friends. In death, Ila rejoined her parents, her loving husband Gene, brothers George and Ronald, sister Mary Lou in infancy, great-granddaughter Hope and son Ron Rook.
