Ilene Barger

Ilene Barger, 72, of Melbourne, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at her home and under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home. Memorial services celebrating her life will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the service time. Ilene was born on March 25, 1947 in Buffalo, New York, to Sterling Dobson and Arliene (Lackey). She grew up in Marshalltown with her mother Arliene and stepfather Hershel, whom she called dad. Arlene graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1965. Ilene was united in marriage to Larry Barger on May 1, 1990, in Las Vegas. She had worked at Hy-Vee as a cashier (a job she loved and was loved by all the customers). Ilene enjoyed going to the casino to play the slots and was an avid watcher of Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right as well as the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans. She also was a dog lover, but most of all, enjoyed the time with her grandchildren. Ilene is survived by her husband of 29 years, Larry, children: Jamie (Mike) Worley of Melbourne and Adam Barger of Melbourne, grandchildren: Walker Westcott, Alex Worley and Layton Barger and her great granddaughter Gracelyn Worley, as well as cousins and numerous friends and her Hy-Vee family. Ilene is preceded in death by her parents Hershel and Arliene and brother Steve Dobson.
