Ilo H. Bud Buffington, 87, of Marshalltown diedThursday April 16th, 2009, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. A celebration of Ilos life will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 21st at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Ilo and his family, phone 641-844-1234. Ilo was born in Marshalltown on November 25th, 1921, to parents Vernie and Leona (Waldo) Buffington. He graduated from Albion High School, and from Barber School in Des Moines. Ilo joined the Army Air Corps on September 12, 1942 and served his country honorably during WWII. Following his discharge on October 31, 1945, Ilo returned to Marshalltown. On November 11th, 1946, Ilo was united in marriage to Betty Moore, in Marshalltown. The couple made their home in Marshalltown where they raised their two sons, Craig and Kent. Ilo worked at Iowa Light and Power for 20 years, then as a Barber at the Iowa Veterans Home, retiring in 1987. Ilo was a member of the American Legion, he enjoyed sports, especially baseball and golf. He liked to take Betty and his sons on fishing trips to Minnesota, and read. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Left to mourn their loss, and celebrate Ilos life is his loving wife Betty; his sons Craig and Kent Buffington; his sisters Alberta Birchard, Helen Buffington, and Lavonne Baker; his brother Richard Buffington, as well as many friends. In death, Ilo has rejoined his parents and his brothers Vernie Jr. and Donnie Buffington.
