Ina Mae Callahan, 87 of Marshalltown passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 14, 2015, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Ina Mae Callahan was born on November 15, 1928, at home in St. Anthony, Iowa; she was the daughter of Haley and Flora (Hawks) Whitney. She attended school in the St. Anthony School District graduating with the Class of 1944 and furthered her education at Marshalltown Community College. Ina was married to Hubert Swede Callahan and they later divorced. Ina was a busy homemaker raising her 8 children and also did housekeeping and baking for others, her pies and cake were well known in the community. She loved her flower gardens, always raised a big garden, fed and watched the birds and squirrels, cardinals being her favorite. Above all, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked for MICA and VISTA in the social work area for years. Ina attended church at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Faith Assembly of God and New Hope Christian Church. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Gary Whitney of Worley, Idaho, Mike (Cheryl) Callahan of Marshalltown, Iowa, Bob (Vanessa) Callahan of Westminster, Colorado, Cathy (Jay) Ward of Florida, John Callahan of Des Moines, Iowa and David (Abbie) Callahan of Cheyenne, Wyoming; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Bill Sanderson of Dallas Texas; sisters, Margaret (Glenn) Sharp of Marshalltown, Iowa, Eileen (Max) Gauch of Baxter, Iowa and Cathy Nolan of Marshalltown, Iowa. In death Ina rejoins her parents, Haley and Flora; children, DeDe Sanderson and Paul Callahan and sister, Ann (Fred) Poshek.
