Iona Mae Hofer

Iona Mae Hofer, 86, of State Center, passed away on Saturday morning, November 26, 2022 at State Center Specialty Care.

Iona Couch was born on April 2, 1936 to Alfred and Opal Couch. On March 22, 1953, Iona was united in marriage to Alfred “Al” Hofer in Mingo, Iowa at the First Methodist Church. Together, Iona and Al lived in Colorado before calling State Center home. Iona had worked for KIOWA and RR Donnelley. She was a member of the Garden Club and Lions Club where she served many meals at the State Center Methodist Church. Iona enjoyed doing puzzle books, quilting, crocheting, gardening and baking (especially pie). She always wanted to be busy doing something, and not one to sit still very long.


Iona is survived by her children: Earl (Kathy) Hofer of Davenport and Lorica “Lori” Hofer of State Center. Grandchildren: DeNae Warren, Nathan (Shannon) Hofer, Amber Grantz, Nicholas Hofer, Danille Hofer, Trey Hofer, Jeff Holt, Tim Holt, Jenny (Kenny) Herbert and Jamie Andrews. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and siblings: Larry Couch of Tallahassee, Florida, Gary Couch of Paxton, Nebraska and Twila McBride of Canyon City, Colorado.


Iona is preceded in death by her children: Ronald Hofer, Bradley Hofer, Carol Hofer and twin still born children. She is also preceded in death by her parents, and granddaughter, Kelly Andrews.
