Irene Rash

December 22, 1921 — January 12, 2019

Irene Yantis Rash was born east of Union on December 22, 1921. At the age of one year old the family moved to a farm three miles north of Liscomb on the Hardin and Grundy County line road and lived there for 28 years. Irene went to the Whitten School and graduated from Whitten. She married David Rash on September 5, 1945 in Manchester, Iowa after David served in the Navy during WW2. They moved around during their first years of marriage, and finally moved to a farm three miles south of Union where they raised their family and farmed. Her family attended the Baptist church in Union where she taught Sunday School classes over the years, helped in Vacation Bible School, and helped with various other activities in the church. They later moved to Eldora and went to First Baptist Church and helped teach in Sunday School.   Irene has three children- Kathleen (Steven) Flug, Steven (Diane) Rash, and Joyce (Jim) Roling; four grandkids- David (Elizabeth) Flug, Julie (John) Vanderpool, Sean (DeAnn) Roling, and Jami (Brian) Kendall, and 12 great grandchildren- Caden, Briston, Aviah, and Greyson Flug; Ryder, Gunner, and Taylor Vanderpool; Logan, Kaleb, and Jenna Roling; Brianna and Tyler Kendall. She was preceded in death by her parents- Charles and Pearl Mae Yantis; husband- David Rash; two children- Charles Howard and Phyllis Ann; a brother- Glen Eugene; and three sisters- Mildred Frantz, Lucille Boyle, and Ruth Allyn.   Funeral services for Irene will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Church in Marshalltown (known prior as E- Free). Visitation will start an hour ahead of time at 10:00 a.m. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Irene and her family.
