Irene Frances Ridout, 84, of rural Haverhill, died Monday morning, August 11th, following a short battle with cancer. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 14th, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haverhill with Fr. Jim Miller officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Haverhill with a lunch and gathering to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a vigil service starting at 7:00. Friends may also visit the Mitchell Family Funeral Home on Wednesday from noon until 7:00 p.m. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or phone 641-844-1234.Born Irene Frances Sassen on February 18th, 1924, she was the daughter of Herman and Rose (Jansen) Sassen. She received her education through St. Josephs School in Haverhill. On February 12th, 1947, she was united in marriage to Robert Ridout at the Immaculate Conception Church at Haverhill. They farmed all of their married lives in the Haverhill Community where she was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Monicas Society. She recently became a member of St. Marys Parish in Marshalltown. Irene dearly treasured her family and friends and enjoyed playing cards with her sisters, going for Chinese food, running her grandchildren to events and was an official honorary member of the Knights of Columbus having her own stool and parking place. She knew no strangers and was social to everyone. Irene also enjoyed dancing and even did the Chicken Dance as part of Matt Edels political career as Matts Chicks. She was born, raised, married and lived her entire life on the home place.Left to cherish her memory are her son, Terry (Nancy) Ridout of Haverhill, daughter-in-law Vincene Ridout of Marshalltown, five grandchildren: Jeff Ridout (Susie Buck) of Marshalltown, Johnny Ridout of Des Moines, Laura Ridout (Rod Stolzman) of Marshalltown, and Jared and Justin Ridout of Haverhill, two great-grandchildren Holly Ridout and D.J. Ridout, her only surviving sister Edna Daters of the Grandview Heights, as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.In death Irene was rejoined with her beloved husband Robert, beloved son Dennis, siblings Ray Sassen, Rose Lang, Mildred Zimmerman, infant brothers Elmer and Vincent and her parents.
