Irene Riemenschneider, 92, of State Center, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. To honor her and her family’s wishes, cremation rites will be given. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 20th at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center with interment to follow in the Hillside Cemetery, State Center. The public is also invited to visitation at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be directed to Irene’s family for later designations. Irene Mildred was born on February 23, 1929, in rural State Center, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Hilleman) Meier. She was baptized and confirmed and St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. She was educated in the St. Anthony and State Center schools, graduating with State Center High School Class of 1946. On September 12, 1948, she was married to Howard R. Riemenschneider at St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. They were parents of two children, David and JoAnn. Irene worked at the State Center Creamery, the Liston Grocery Store, the Edler Grocery Store, the Andrews Grocery Store, the West Marshall High School and Goodman Milling before retiring in 1992. She also did home typing for Donnelly Corporation and bookkeeping for Moody’s Sanitation. Irene enjoyed their fishing trips to Minnesota where they spent the summers in Waterville, Minnesota and then Elysian, Minnesota. When the health of Howard deteriorated, they sold their summer home and stayed in State Center. Irene loved to read western books, crochet the many afghans that grandkids and great grandkids have, and feed and watch her birds. She also played cards on her computer and enjoyed her tablet by keeping up with family on Facebook. Surviving are her children, David (Pam) Riemenschneider of State Center and JoAnn Bogard of State Center; 7 grandchildren: Jamie Riemenschneider, Darla Proferes, Shelly (Mick) Burg, Carey (Nate) Taylor, Michele Case, Rob Riemenschneider and Ryan (Erin) Helleso. Also surviving are eighteen great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her parents; a sister, Dorine Lampkin and two brothers, Robert Meier and Roger Meier.
