Jack Elmer Borg, 88, of Marshalltown, formerly of Des Moines, died Sunday, April 26th, 2009 at the Iowa Veterans Home. There will be no services held at this time. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Jack was born in Des Moines on June 16th, 1920. He was the son of Eva (Codner) and Elmer Borg. Jack grew up in Des Moines, attending East High School, graduating in 1939. On December 20th, 1941, he was united in marriage to Maxine June Smith in Bethany, MO. Jack then enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country honorably during WWII. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Jack worked at Butternut Bread, then for many years at Old Home Bakery, until his retirement. After retiring, Jack took a position in the purchasing department at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Jack enjoyed his family, including his dogs Elkie and Mindy. He also enjoyed taking care of his cars, making sure they were always washed and waxed to car-show standards. Left to mourn their loss, and cherish Jacks memory is his daughter Diane Borg of Des Moines, his daughter Anita (Michael) Mireles of Des Moines; his grandchildren: twins Theresa Hale and Jon Mireles, Jerry Hull, and Ann Jarnagin; seven great-grandchildren; and his sister Margurette Latham. In death, Jack has rejoined his beloved wife Maxine, his parents, and his dogs Elkie and Mindy.
