Jack Casterline, 78, longtime resident of Marshalltown, died Sunday, September 5, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.Full military rites will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. There is no formal funeral service or visitation planned. Memorials may be directed to the family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Jack and his family. Phone 641-844-1234.Jack Raymond Casterline was born on April 10, 1932, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Raymond and Helen (OBrien) Casterline. He attended North Scranton High School. Jack served our country honorably in the United States Air Force followed by Air Force Reserves. He served in the Korean Conflict in Guam. On October 9, 1954, Jack married Nellie Breuklander in Wichita Falls, Texas, after meeting while they were both serving in the Air Force. The couple moved to Marshalltown in 1956.Jack was employed with Minneapolis and St. Louis railroad (now Union Pacific). He was then self-employed selling grain elevators and grain dryers, working mainly in Iowa. He was a life member of VFW, 49-year member of Moose Lodge, and past member of American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, and playing slots at Meskwaki. He also loved watching birds and squirrels while at his daughters house.Surviving Jack is his wife and best friend of nearly 56 years, Nellie Casterline of Marshalltown; his daughters Jackie (Jeff) Hoop of Marshalltown and Fay (Dan) Schiebel of Ogden; his three grandchildren Jennifer Hart, Amanda Hart, and Abby (Kevin) Lingard; his childhood friend Eugene Saravitz of Taylor, PA; his close friends Ed Spichart of Marshalltown, Dale Adams of Marshalltown, and Paul (Boots) Moody of Marshalltown.In death he rejoins his parents and his best friend Roberto (Cubie) Socarras.
