Jack Leaton, 85, of Marshalltown, died early Tuesday morning, March 18th, at his home while in the loving care of his family. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 24th, at the Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein, Iowa with military honors provided by the Oelwein American Legion. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund is being established. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown is caring for Jack and his family. Ph 641-844-1234. Jack was born on August 28th, 1922, in Minneapolis, MN. And raised by John Leaton and Ethel Preston. The family moved to Oelwein, Iowa where Jack graduated with the Oelwein High Schools Class of 1940. He served our country honorably in the United States Navy during WWII and returned to Oelwein following his honorable discharge in 1946. Mr. Leaton was employed as a bus driver with De Wees Bus Lines in Oelwein and two years in Chicago before returning to his previous employer. He later was employed in Cedar Rapids at Charter Coaches and retired from Marshall Motor Coach in Marshalltown in the mid 1980s. On April 13th, 1948, he was united in marriage to Lillian Stolka in Oelwein.Jack enjoyed his profession knowing the open roads and enjoyed his patrons (from high school through Y Seniors) and took great care of them all. He enjoyed automobiles, car racing, and his family and was an all-around personable, outgoing guy with a great sense of humor. Those who cherish his memory include Lillian, his loving wife of nearly 60 years, his children: Linda Leaton of Marshalltown, Barbara (John) Hand of Marshalltown, Ricky (Vicky) Leaton of Marshalltown, his three grandchildren: John Hand II (Laura) of Cedar Falls, Beth (Sean) Frost of Marshalltown and David Leaton of Cedar Rapids and his brother Thomas Robinson of Miami, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews. In death, Jack has rejoined his parents, twin sister Jean, sister Lucille, brother Norman and step-brother, Milton.
