September 18, 1920 — February 4, 2016

Jack Long, 95, of Le Grand passed away Thursday, February 4th, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be Thursday, February 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a visitation held from 10 11:00. With Pastor Alan Mullikin officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Le Grand Friends Cemetery. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Jack and his family. Staying true to Jacks wishes no memorials are to be made, along with flower arrangements. Jack was born on September 18th 1920 in Montour Iowa to John and Maude (Shipley). He graduated from Le Grand High Schools class of 1938. On August 12th, 1941 Jack was united in marriage to Hazel Mahle in Marshalltown. Jack was a devoted husband and was focused on being the best that he could be for Hazel. They made their homes in Montour and Le Grand and was employed as a truck driver at the Strand Bakery in Marshalltown. Jack was a proud Retired Member of American Legion, a retired member of the teamsters union and enjoyed the coffee club he had with his many friends. In later years Jack could have been found in the stands at his childrens sporting events, and more recently watching his grandchildren playing sports. In his free time Jack enjoyed fishing, his daily routine of walking, and was a great gardener sharing his vegetables with his everyone he knew. Left to cherish his memory is his four children: Warren (Betty) Long of Burlington, Kentucky, Suzanne Levison of San Diego, CA, Tom Long of Cedar Rapids and Jerry Long of Denver, Colorado, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In death he is rejoined by his loving wife and his parents.
