Jack Moore

Jack Moore, 58, of Liscomb, passed away on July 26, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, from 4:00 8:00 p.m., at Bethel Grove Church in rural Liscomb. Memorial may be directed to the family. Jack Edward Moore was born on September 1, 1955 to Earl and Iva Lou (Livengood) Moore of Moorhead, the 6th of 8 children. He graduated from East Monona High School in 1973 and attended Iowa State University, returning home from college his freshman year to help his father install indoor plumbing in the family home. He graduated Iowa State in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Ag Business. On July 14, 1979 he spotted Cynthia Hanson in the crowd at Moorhead Community Days, an event she almost didnt attend but didnt want a friend to go alone. What followed was a courtship that involved meeting halfway between campuses in Ames and Iowa City and $300 long distance phone bills. Just six months later, on December 29, 1979, the two were married and Jack lived the rest of his life loving Cynthia as Christ loved the church. Jack began his professional life working for SPS Onawa drilling irrigation wells, then Gerlach in Nevada, Iowa while in college, Fruita Co-op and Northrup King Seeds in Colorado, the State of Colorado Department of Agriculture, and most recently as Technology Coordinator for BCLUW school district. There he proudly helped the school become the 6th school district in the state of Iowa to implement a 1 to 1 laptop program, currently providing students in grades 3 through 12 with individual laptops. He had a lifelong devotion to ministry, working with youth groups in Grand Junction and Rocky Ford, CO and Bethel Grove Church in Liscomb, IA. The youth and their leaders quickly learned he was a man of integrity when he refused to exceed the speed limit, saying he didnt want to stand before the Lord and explain why there was a speeding ticket on a mission trip. Jack possessed an unmatched devotion to his family, his church, and his work and those priorities guided his life. He loved to sing, garden, fish on the family farm pond, and tackle any fix-it project with skill and patience. A 100-year old family home in Ute, Iowa has new life because of his passion for tradition, and two Adirondack chairs he built this year are instant family treasures. His trademark bushy beard always framed a gentle smile. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his younger sister Kathy. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Hanson Moore of Liscomb, Iowa; his son Daniel Jackson Moore of Marshalltown, Iowa; daughter Sarah Kate Moore of Tempe, Arizona; brother Roy (wife Shannon) Moore of Wellington, Florida; Butch Moore of Moorhead, Iowa; Keith (wife Cheryl) Moore of Mapleton, Iowa; Everett (wife Bev) Moore of Paw Paw, Michigan; Lisa (husband Steve) Petersen of Salix, Iowa; as well as 18 nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Jack. Just 24 hours after his passing, Jack welcomed his sister Hazel (husband Norris) Torbensen as she joined him in glory after a battle with cancer. Jack passed away July 25th, 2014 while working on the home he prized in Ute, concluding an earthly life well lived, and leaving a family well loved.
