Jack D. Thompson, 76, of Centralia, Kansas, formerly of the Marshalltown area, died Friday, July 11th, in Centralia. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born on October 12th, 1931, in State Center, Iowa, he was one of two sons born to Glenn and Marie (Bernard) Thompson. He graduated from the State Center High School and later with an engineering degree from Iowa State University. Jack served our country honorably in the United States Air Force stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. In August of 1962, he was united in marriage to Sharon Perfect. They made their home in Marshalltown and later LeGrand. Mr. Thompson was employed at Marshalltown Instruments as a draftsman. The couple later moved to Des Moines where he managed apartments, did maintenance work, deliveries and carpentry. Sharon passed away in 1994 and in 2005, he moved to Centralia, Kansas to be near his daughter and her family. He was a former member of the Elim Lutheran Church, American Legion and VFW. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Norm (Terri) Thompson of Carlisle, Iowa, Brenda (Ron) Rosine of Centralia, Kansas and Brent of LeGrand, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In death he has rejoined his parents, beloved wife Sharon and brother Denny.
