Jackie Wilkening

Gwyequetta (Jackie) Wilkening, 91, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa with loving family by her side. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015, at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Gwyequetta Myrtle Hoskin was born on January 5, 1924, in Selma, Iowa; she was the daughter of Neri and Pearl (Shelton) Hoskin. She attended school in Des Moines, Iowa graduating from Roosevelt High School. Jackie went on to attend Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls receiving her Teaching Degree. On January 21, 1951, Jackie was united in marriage to Ronald Wilkening in Bloomfield, Iowa; they had resided in Marshalltown and in 1976 when they moved to Houston, Texas, and while in Texas she worked in food service in the local school district and upon retiring they returned to Marshalltown. Jackie had taught Kindergarten in State Center and then substituted in the Marshalltown Community School District, she also taught piano lessons. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Merry Mixers and Tops, Flutter Wheelers camping group and the Square Dance Club. Jackie enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, collecting red bird memorabilia, working her crossword puzzles and word puzzles and a past member of Sweet Adelines and the Red Hat Society and she loved her family. Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Greg (Debby) Wilkening of Conroe, Texas and Douglas (Jacqueline) Wilkening of Marshalltown, Iowa. Grandchildren: Michelle (Miguel) Chavez of Waverly, Iowa, Jarrod Wilkening of Houston, Texas, Mitzi Wilkening (Fiance Ryan Schnackel) of Solon, Iowa. Great-grandchildren: Valerie, Veronica and Vanessa Gregory of Waverly, Iowa, and sister-in-law, JoAnn Hoskin of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota. In death Gwyequetta rejoins her parents, Neri and Pearl, husband, Ronald, and brother, Quentin Hoskin.
