Jacob Rudy, 82, of Marshalltown, died Monday morning, May 31, 2010, at the MMSC with his loving wife at his side. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3rd, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He was laid to rest in the Green Mountain Cemetery with full military honors by the Harry C. Harter VFW Post #839. Visitation was held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Born on March 10th, 1928, at Liscomb, Iowa, he was the son of John Sherman and Zula (Bonham) Rudy. He received his education in the area of his birth and later went to work for Bill Bartine farming and at the Liscomb Elevator. Jake served our country honorably in the United States Army Air Force from 1946 until 1947. He returned to Liscomb and began working again for Bill. He later was a mechanic for Bordens Dairy, Fisher Controls and retired from Farm and Home on East Church Street in Marshalltown. On September 16th, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Kelley at the Bethel Grove Church. They made their home in Marshalltown where they raised their children, Doug and Karen. Jake loved the simple things in life, especially fishing, hunting, gardening, animals, roses and mushroom hunting when he was able. He loved his family, always there for all of them in timeof need. He also loved to make Hazels sour cream rhubard pie, little children who always returned his love, the Christmas parties they held in their basement when the children were small and telling stories. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Marilyn, daughter Karen, his dog Lady, sisters and brothers-in-law Hazel Bonham of Liscomb, Wayne and Norma Somers of Green Mountain and Lillian Somers of Green Mountain, nieces and nephews: Craig and Peg Somers of Marshalltown, Sharon and Paul Beyers of Independence, Pam and Brian DeSilva of Beaman, Jeff and Bonnie Somers of Green Mountain, Linda and Dave Callahan of Beaman, Darrell Somers in Michigan and all of their families, cousins Cheryl Ridenour of Marshalltown and Billy Rudy of Colorado Springs and Scott Bonham and his sisters all of Hastings, NE. In death, Jake rejoined his parents, his son Douglas, sisters Irene Manchester and Edna Wright and nieces Vicki Watson and Frances Sternhagen.
