James ' Jim' Adkins

March 28, 1951 — June 5, 2014

James Jim Adkins, 63, of Bluffton, South Carolina passed away June 5, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. Jim was a long time resident of State Center, just moving to South Carolina in January so he could golf all year round. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be directed to the Melanoma Research Foundation. James Anthony was born to James Deb and Shirley Eide Adkins on March 28th, 1951 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Jim graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1969. He joined the Army right away and served in Vietnam, Germany and Iran from 1969-1972. Jim was united in marriage to Carol Zednichek Davis on July 21st, 2000 in Marshalltown. Jim worked for Fisher Control/Emerson Processing for 39 years, retiring in March of 2013. Jim was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of Lincoln Valley Golf Course. He loved to travel and has been all over the world. He enjoyed traveling for both work and pleasure. Jim especially loved to go to Disney World. Jim had a taste for dark beers and loved to try any new one that he could and he especially liked it if you would drink one with him! His grandkids were the apple of his eye and he sure melted and became a kid again when in their presence. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 13 years; Carol. Mother: Shirley Adkins of Waco, Texas. Children: Jaimie (Katie) of Marshalltown, Lori Vajgrt of Wild Rose, Wisconsin and Aj (Mindy) Davis of Charlestown, Indiana. Grandchildren: Lauren and Seth Davis. Siblings: Debbie (Rick) Duhrkopf of Waco, Texas and Steven (Tammi) of Joplin, Missouri. Brother in laws: Larry (Janie Zednichek of Conrad and James (Carmen) Zednicheck of Marshalltown. Sister in law Beverly Waddell of Puryear, Tennessee and many nieces and nephews and a lot of very good friends. Jim is preceded in death by his father James Deb Adkins, mother in law Dorothy Zednichek and his grandparents.
