James Joseph Jim Brezina, 76, passed away Monday, May 19, 2008, at his home while in the loving care of his family and Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Fr. Don Czapla officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice or St. Henrys Church. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on August 30, 1931, in Tama County, Jim was the son of Rudolph and Tillie (Chesick) Brezina. He was educated in the Tama area country schools. He served our country in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. On February 21, 1955, he married Darlene Flowers at the Tama United Methodist Church. The couple farmed in Montour until a fire destroyed their home. They then lived in Toledo until 1966, when they moved to Marshalltown. Darlene passed away on April 17, 2003.Jim worked as a forklift driver at Gra-Iron Foundry until it closed. He then worked at M. Gervich and Sons as a forklift driver until his retirement in 1999. He also painted barns and homes, both interior and exterior, for many years. He liked to work and keep busy. Jim especially loved horses and collecting horses and he also loved flower gardening. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jamie(Jim) Snyder of Marshalltown; his grandchildren Jennifer Kilker(Coridan McGinley) of Johnston, Danial (Jessica) Kilker of Marshalltown, Angie(James) Christensen of Marshalltown, and Jamey Kilker and Corey Kilker of Marshalltown; his great-grandson, Nile Christensen of Marshalltown; his sister Irene Dolezal of Tama, his brothers Rudy(Helen) Brezina and Lawrence(Doris)Brezina, both of Tama, and his son-in-law Dave(Leanne) Kilker of Marshalltown. In death, he has rejoined his parents, his wife Darlene, his daughter Bonnie Kilker, who died in July of 2001, and his siblings Blanche Cibula, Charles Brezina, Milvoy Brezina, Helen Kasal, and Lester Brezina.
