James W. Evans, 70, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown. Following cremation, memorial services for Mr. Evans will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 24 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A private family interment will take place at a later date. A memorial visitation will be held Friday evening, July 23, from 5:00 PM 7:00 PM at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where his family will be present to greet friends. He was raised and educated in Kingman, Kansas where he graduated from the Kingman High School and was active in football, life guarding and was active in several other sports. After graduating from high school James attended Pittsburgh State University in Kansas. James was united in marriage to Wanda Manley on January 13, 1962 in Omaha, Nebraska. Following their marriage they made their home in Sioux City, Iowa before settling in Marshalltown in 1967. Throughout his career James was a salesman for Carpenter Paper Company for 30 years, Nationwide, and was President of Sig Manufacturing in Montezuma, Iowa for five years at the time of his retirement. During his retirement, James worked part-time at Loots Manning Chevrolet and Septer Motor Company. James enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially mowing and caring for his lawn, working with stained glass and golfing at Elmwood Country Club. James was an original member of the morning Marshalltown-Matins Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Elmwood Country Club. James is survived by his wife Wanda of Marshalltown, his two sons; David (Angela) Evans of Lawrence, Kansas and Dan Evans of Davenport, Iowa, his two granddaughters; Hannah D. Evans and Briana Di Iorio, his siblings; Edwin Dale Evans of San Diego, Jack Evans of Salem, Oregon, and Rhoda Kay Fisher of Barling, Arkansas. James was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lena, his sister Aurilla Jean Ehler, his brother Dean and a brother in infancy.
