James Tuff Hauser, 87, of LaMoille, died early Friday morning, May 13, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center with his family at his side.Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Elmwood Cemetery at LaMoille with full military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on September 20, 1923, at State Center, Iowa, he was the son of Jimmy James P. and Stella Mae (Thomas) Hauser. He received his education in the LaMoille Consolidated School. During WWII, he served our country honorably in the United States Navy stationed on the USS Attala.On July 31, 1944, he was united in marriage to Forestine Nick Nichols. They resided in Marshalltown, the LaMoille Community, and St. Anthony before returning to LaMoille. Tuff was employed at Marshalltown Instruments for over 20 years and previously at Havre Phillips 66 Oil and Reimer Construction. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Marshalltown and the UAW Local #893 and retirees.Tuff will be fondly remembered for his easy-going attitude and enjoyed gardening, cooking, puttering around the place and fixing things, creating new foods, bird-watching, taking in the barn dances near Gilman, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs and treasured time with his family. He had a remarkable memory of roads traveled in the United States and up to the end, was teasing the nurses with his humor. In August of 2010, he was humbled to be a part of the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Karen (Chuck) Vannatta of Gilman and Garry Hauser and his wife Sherry Dolash of Iowa City, five grandchildren- Brett Vannatta, Brooke (Nick) Ruemmele, Briley Dolash, Tegan Hauser and Sage Dolash-Hauser, one great-grandchild Aaralyn Nicole DeLeeuw and one on the way. Also surviving are his sisters- Marjorie Mick Bachman of Marshalltown, Doris Hibbs in Florida, several nieces and nephews, the Nichols family, his special friend Betty Burgess and many friends. In death, Jim rejoined his parents, wife Forestine who died in 2007, sisters Alice Maggie Haskell, Jesse Hovey and Irene Ginny Shipley, and brother Henry Bud Hauser.
