James Laverne Hunnicutt

James Jim Laverne Hunnicutt, of Marshalltown, passed away on June 28, 2017. A memorial gathering will be held on July 6, 2017 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with the family present to greet guests at 5:00 p.m. A memorial fund is being established and may be directed to the family. For condolences please visit www.Mitchellfh.com or call (641)-844-1234. Jim Hunnicutt was born on December 9, 1949 to Darrell and Doris (Dailey) Hunnicutt in Marshalltown, Iowa. Jim was raised in the Tama area where he attended Tama High School and graduated with the Class of 1968. On May 8, 1976 Jim was united in marriage to Cathy Nielsen and the two made their way around the country until they settled down in Marshalltown. Jim was employed by Long John Silvers for 15 years and worked his way up into a management position. Afterwards, Jim was employed by Hy-Vee in Marshalltown for over 13 years until his retirement. In his free time Jim loved to read almost anything western and science fiction. Jim was a quiet man that loved spending time with his family. Left to cherish Jims memory are his wife of 41 years, Cathy; his son, Brian (Melinda) Hunnicutt of Audubon, Iowa; grandchildren, Koby Brian and Gabriella Gabby Ruby; brother, Mark (Marna) Hunnicutt; and sisters, Vicki (Jess) Coatney and Lisa (Mario) Almanza and many nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Darrell and Doris and daughter, Erin.
