James "Jim" Robert Proffitt

James R. Proffitt, 53, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 in the comfort of his own home. Funeral services for “Jim” will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Sandra Thompson-Hardwick officiating.  Public visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, where Jim’s family has requested all who can to please wear their Iowa Hawkeye’s attire.  Memorial contributions may be directed in Jim’s name to his family.  For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234.  Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Jim and his family. James Robert Proffitt was born on June 24, 1965 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Robert and Clara (Slifer) Proffitt.  He was raised and educated in the Marshall County School Districts where he attended and received his G.E.D.  Jim was united in marriage to Michelle Owen.  The two later divorced but from this union they were blessed with two children: Chris and Emily.  Jim was employed with the Iowa Veterans Home for nearly 15 years in the dietary department and also worked for KIOWA for 13 years.  He had a passion for football, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs. Jim also enjoyed fishing, golfing, Taekwondo (where he was a second degree black belt), and most importantly Jim treasured the time he got to spend with his family and friends. Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his two children: Chris (Christy) Proffitt and Emily Proffitt; grandchildren: Lucas, Katie and Jacob; three sisters: Pam Krier, Tammy Foster and Michelle Proffitt as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Clara, one brother: Steve Proffitt, two brother-in-laws: Dudley Krier, Ray Foster and niece: Melissa Foster.
