James R. McGregor III, Jim, 80, of Marshalltown, former president of the McGregor Furniture Company, passed away on the morning of Thursday, February 9th, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his family at his side. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Private interment rites will be held. The family encourages all to remain following the service at the funeral home for a time of fellowship and lunch. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. James Rollin McGregor was born on August 23rd, 1936, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to James Rollin, Jr. and Maxine Lill McGregor. He was a proud graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder. On October 17th, 1959, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary, in Waterloo, Iowa. They made their home in Marshalltown where he served as President of McGregor Furniture which was started by his grandfather and namesake, James Rollin McGregor, in 1896 in Oskaloosa. He was a part of a proud heritage of the McGregor family and Marshalltown. Jim served as President of Elmwood Country Club in 1975, Rotary International and several other organizations in the community. It was a good day in Jim McGregors life if he could play golf and spend time with the family. Every year a highlight was the family trip to Gull Lake. Jim was a sports enthusiast as well. Left to treasure his memory are Mary, his loving wife of 57 years, his children- Lisa McGregor, Chris (Doug) Case, Melissa (Rod) Jensen, Megan (Randy) Woodbeck, Erin (John) Payne and Sandy (Jeremy) Schwenker; grandchildren- Kelsey, Ryan, Lauren, Tyler, Zach, Cameron, Gabe, Colin, Halle, Regan, Brecken, Bryson and Greta and a great-granddaughter, Eloise Ellie. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Goldsmith. In death, Jim rejoined his parents and his son, James Rollin McGregor, IV.
