James Needs, 62, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Thursday, December, 8, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa with his family by his side. A memorial gathering will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016, (which would have been Jims 63rd birthday) at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. James Craig Needs was born on December 17, 1953 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the 6th of 8 children born to Frank V. Needs and Bette V. (Stoneking) Needs. James attended school in the SEMCO Community School District graduating with the Class of 1972. He served his country and discharged honorably from the United States Navy. Early on Jim worked for LeRoy Morford and then at the Gray Iron Foundry. In his later life, he was an OTR truck driver going as far away as Texas and the east coast. Jim lead a hard life, but had a good heart. He had many life-long friendships with whom he shall be missed. 3.1 James was united in marriage to Kathy Luther, but later divorced. Of this union Jim had a son, Adam Needs. Later he married Marlene (Minor) Williams, where he then had 3 stepsons: Brent, Kirk, and James Williams. Jim and Marlene also had 2 other sons, Robert and Steven Needs. Jim is survived by his companion of 11 years, Mary Hawes of Marshalltown, Iowa, his 3 stepsons and his 3 sons, and 6 grandchildren including Johnathan Lee Needs. Also his siblings: Mary Lou (Lloyd) Weber of Fairbank, Iowa, Frank R. (Betty) Needs of Laurel, Iowa, Betty Jean Glenn of Kingston, Tennessee, Jon (Linda) Needs of State Center, Iowa and Jeff (Kim) Needs of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews. In death James rejoins his parents, Frank and Bette Needs, and brothers, Michael F. Needs and George H. Needs II; one niece, Kolene Weber and one nephew, Justin Needs.
