Born September 9, 1944 in Iowa Falls, Iowa, Jim was one of six children born to Vernard and Mildred (Hill) Pepper. After graduating from high school, he honorably served his country in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller. Upon his return from service, he met the love of his life, Linda Edler at Totem Bowl. He proposed in the parking lot of that same bowling alley, and they were married on July 3, 1970 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. They made their home in Marshalltown, where Jim worked for over 20 years as a rural postal carrier. He also co-owned Act II Fashions for 26 years and worked at Lennox prior to retiring. Jim was a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. He was an avid reader of westerns, and enjoyed fishing, playing golf and bowling. He was also known for being quite the jokester.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 54 years, Linda Pepper; his daughter Jamie Lynn Miller Pepper of Louisville, KY; grandchildren: Jeremy Miller of Marshalltown, Autumn Kane of Columbia, MO and Sarah Cretin of Marshalltown; siblings: Virgil (Carol) Pepper and Marladene Tice, both of Ames, and Julian (Karen) Pepper of Independence; sister-in-law Audrey Streib of Overland Park, KS; brother-in-law Bill Severidt in Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

In eternal life, Jim is reunited with his parents Vernard and Mildred, sisters Norma Ingham and Carol Severidt and brothers-in-law Michael “Mike” Streib, Harl Ingham and Bob Tice.
