James D. Potter, 41, of 3202 South 12th Street, Marshalltown, died late Sunday night, May 13th, near Medford, Oklahoma. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 18th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Kosbau of the E-Free Church officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839 at the funeral home. Cremation rites will follow. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments in the hospitality room of the funeral home immediately following the services. Friends may come to the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Memorials may be directed to the family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for James and his family. Ph 844-1234. Born on September 21st, 1965, in Iowa City, Iowa, he was the son of James Delwin and Rose (Taylor) Potter. He attended school in Tama and later moved to Marshalltown, graduating from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1984. James served our country proudly in the United States Navy in the Mediterranean aboard the USS America. On May 2nd, 1997, in Marshalltown, he was united in marriage to Cindy Howell Alday. They have made their home in Marshalltown all of their married lives. He was employed by Trillium Company in construction. James enjoyed Hotwheels, NASCAR and fishing and will be fondly remembered by his niece and nephews as Uncle Jimmie Johnson. He will be greatly missed by all of his family. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 10 years, Cindy, his mother Rose (Dan) Kriegel of Tama, half-brothers Darrin Potter of State Center and Scott (Melissa) Potter of Marshalltown, half-brother Danny Kriegel and half-sister Heather Kriegel, his grandma Taylor, an aunt Elaine Fulmer who helped raise James of Branson, MO., six nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, work colleagues and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his father and grandparents.
