James Thompson

January 6, 1945 — April 23, 2020

James (Jim) Frankie Thompson, 75, of Marshalltown, Iowa died peacefully at the Iowa River Hospice Home on April 23, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on January 6, 1945, in Hammond, Indiana. He was the son of Rollie and Eva Thompson and had 8 siblings: Muriel, Raymond, Loudena, Wanda, Harold, Donald, Kenneth, and Margaret. He Joined the United States Army at the age of 17 and served for three years (1962-1965). On April 15, 1967, he was united in marriage to Lorraine (Jahn) Thompson in Kansas City, Kansas. He worked at Fisher Controls for 20 years and then took early retirement and started a delivery company, Delivery Pros, in 1992. He continued to work there until 2019. Jim never met a stranger and always tried to lift up everyone around him with his quirky jokes. Family was particularly important to him and he was loving and compassionate to all. He enjoyed being around his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He loved going to the casino and putting a few bucks in and visiting with people he met along the way. Jim was a long-time member of Center Street Baptist Church and he cherished his church family; he had a deep faith and that gave him comfort knowing he would be meeting Jesus soon. Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his children, Eric (Caroline) Thompson, David Thompson, Sherri (Steve) Vesely and Sam Thompson; his grandchildren, Shanna (Damien) Draper, Nick and Elizabeth Vesely, Ashlynn (Shawn) Branan, Alexus (Vicente) Ortega, Adie (Troy Harding) Ortiz and Tayler (Tyler Kirkpatrick) Klosterman. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Ken Nour, Kane Kern, Cairo Branan, Camdyn Alman, Adalynn Climer, Hendric and Lily Draper, Amelia and Ember Kirkpatrick and his ex-daughter-in-law, Carrie (Miguel) Ortiz. In heaven he has rejoined his wife, Lorri, his parents, Rollie and Eva and siblings Ray, Don, Kenny, Wanda, Loudena and Muriel.
