James “Jim” Tichy, 74, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Unity Point-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids with his family at his side.
Services for Jim will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 beginning at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish: St. Henry Church. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. James Edward Tichy was born October 14, 1949 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the second of four children born to George and Mary Ann (Parizek) Tichy. Jim grew up in Le Grand, Iowa and attended school at LDF where he later graduated as part of the class of 1968.
On January 10, 1970, Jim was united in marriage to the love of his life Scherry Hoff at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. They built a home together in Le Grand, Iowa where they raised a family of their two children Shane and Shelly. Jim worked for Fisher Controls in Marshalltown and started working in the factory. Over the years he was moved into the offices doing ordering and inventory control at the time of his retirement. Jim assisted in also building a house for his wife Scherry and himself alongside his father, learning how to do many carpentry and plumbing projects along the way.
Jim was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Knights of Columbus, and the Le Grand Volunteer Fire Department. In his free time, he loved to go fishing, water ski and teach everyone how to do so, go disco dancing with his wife Scherry, building things with his hands including entertainment stands for his daughter and bunk beds at the college dorm rooms, he was a master at wood and enjoyed the craft. He w was a family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Scherry Tichy; his children, Shane Tichy and Shelly Tichy-Posadas; his grandchildren, Nathan Tichy, Diego Posadas and Ariana Posadas; his siblings, Pam Walden, Cathy Underhill, and Jerry (Teresa) Tichy; his brother and sisters-in-law, Judy (Bob) Cummings, Shirley (Mark) Loney and Vicki (Dan) Cruikshank; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary Ann Tichy; his brothers-in-law, Larry Walden and Lenny Underhill; and mother and father-in-law John and Dorothy Hoff.
