James Vannatta, age 72, passed away early in the morning of Friday, December 28th, in the care of the Iowa Veterans Home where he has resided since 2015. Memorial services for James will be held by the family at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel. Committal services for James will then take place at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed in James’s name to his family. Born on May 19th, 1946, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Ernie and Ila Mae (Aves) Vannatta. He graduated from the LeGrand High School in 1964. Soon after graduation, James enlisted in the United States Army and served our country honorably during the Viet Nam War. He was a career truck driver most of his life and was employed lastly at Mannatt’s. Survivors include his brother, Charles (Karen) Vannatta of Gilman and sister Myrna (David) Savage of Marshalltown and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is also survived by his family at the Iowa Veterans Home that he truly loved and treasured. In death, he rejoined his parents, brothers Donald and Dan and sister Donna Mae Hoge.
