This has been changed on the website to reflect services times.** James “Jim” York, 82, of Marshalltown, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Per the wishes of Jim and his family, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will take place on Monday, September 13, 2021 (note date) at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. For online condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com . Born October 22, 1938 in Melbourne, Iowa, he was the son of Orval and Thelma (Stolzman) York. After graduating from State Center High School, he went on to receive his degree from Coe College. In May of 1962, Jim enlisted in the United States Army, honorably serving his country for two years. After his return, he fell in love with Linda Lu Williams and they were united in marriage on September 12, 1965 at Grace United Methodist in Marshalltown. Together they raised their three children in Marshalltown. A hard and dedicated worker, Jim spent 23 years with Marshalltown Manufacturing, followed by 20 years at Lennox Industries working in material acquisition and quality control engineering. Faith was very important to Jim and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Linda; his children: Jan (Randy) Matheus of Richfield, MN, Jennifer (Jenni) York of Ames and David York of Minneapolis, MN; his granddaughter, Kayla Matheus; siblings: Linda (Jim) Youngblood of Camdenton, MO, Mary (Larry) Weber of Cedar Rapids and Russell (Jo) York of Spokane, Washington as well as several other relatives. In death, Jim is reunited with his parents, Orval and Thelma and brother, Charles “Charlie” York.
