Proud veteran, James “Jim” Zimmerman, 79, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away peacefully on the morning of April 11, 2022 at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. At this time cremation rites have been accorded and no formal services are planned at this time. Memorials in Jim’s name may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown. James Joseph Zimmerman was born December 11,1942 to parents James A. and Guenivere (Hageman) Zimmerman in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended school in the Cedar Rapids area and later graduated high school from Regis High School in the class of 1960. Following high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served from 1960-1964. After serving four years he was honorably discharged. Jim went on to marry the love of his life Rosemary Ann Gierszewski. Together they went on to start a family and raise their daughter Kim. He worked for a number of years as a staff member for Veteran’s Affairs. In addition, he had worked for the United States Postal Service and worked in the West Des Moines Post offices and Beaverdale offices. In his free time, Jim loved to read books, play scrabble, and fly RC flyers. Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife Rosemary; his daughter Kim Childs; his granddaughter Desiree Childs; his sister Pat Coats; alongside other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Guenivere Zimmerman.
