Born Janice Diane Ingraham on November 16, 1957 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Gene and Ruth (Wirth) Ingraham. She grew up in Laurel and graduated from SEMCO High School in Gilman in 1976. Jan was united to the love of her life, James “Jim” Anderson, on September 2, 1978 at Laurel United Methodist Church. They made their home in Laurel, where they raised their two children. The two enjoyed being grandparents and traveling together and celebrated 36 years of marriage before Jim’s passing in 2014. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Jan worked hard outside of the home. She dedicated several years to the bank in Laurel and went on to work in the administrative office at East Marshall schools, retiring in 2020. She also served as treasurer for the Laurel United Methodist Cemetery board and financial secretary at Laurel United Methodist Church. Jan was a strong Christian and her faith was incredibly important. It was the very thing that got her through her six year battle with cancer. She was a longtime member at Laurel United Methodist Church. More than anything else, Jan was immensely proud of her kids and grandkids. She loved attending all of her grandchildren’s activities. She enjoyed attending Iowa State basketball games, the Big12 Tournaments and concerts, plus watching the Game Show Network and Hallmark Movie Channel. Janice also loved spending time with her friends, especially taking walks and going out to eat. Described as selfless, courageous, patient and determined, she will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Erin (Ryan) Hogue of Waverly and Nick (Laura) Anderson of New Sharon; grandchildren: Audriana, Wyatt and Jack Anderson, Trenton Hogue and Elijah Swenson; brothers: Fred (Jackie) Ingraham of Marshalltown and Roger (Nancy) Ingraham of Newburg; brothers-in-law: Wayne Tapper of Williams, Steve (Nanci) Anderson of Tehachapi, CA and Mark Anderson of Waukee; sisters-in-law: Jo (Dale) Helling of West Des Moines, Jane (Ron) Alston of Waterloo, Carol Hibbs of Marshalltown and Teresa (Mark) Kennedy of Omaha, NE; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends. In eternal life, Janice is reunited with her husband, Jim; her parents, Gene and Ruth; her sister, Sandra Tapper; nephew, Derek Tapper; in-laws, Joel and RuthAnn Anderson; and brother-in-law, Rusty Hibbs.
