Janet A. Schive, 84, of Marshalltown, passed away at Grand View Heights under the care of Iowa River Hospice, on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, with her loving family by her side. Funeral services for Janet will be Monday, July 28, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Family will hold a visitation on Sunday evening, July 27, 2014, from 6:00 8:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Janet and her family. Janet Ann Anderson was born on February 5, 1930, in Alta, Iowa, to Carl David and Nelma (Carlson) Anderson. She graduated from Fairview High School as the class Valedictorian in 1947, and went on to attend Omaha Commercial Extension Business College where she received her Associate of Arts. Janet continued her education at Buena Vista College earning her a Bachelor of Arts with a double major (in Music and Art) and one minor (in English), graduating in only three years, in 1951. She continued her education towards her Master of Arts in Art Education and Music Education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Janet was married to Reginald (Reggie) Ridgeway Schive from July 15, 1956 until their divorce in 1987. She was a lifelong church member, being sprinkled in baptism as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa, then participating in memberships as a United Methodist. In 2006, Janet was born again through baptism at New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Through the years, Janet lived in various places around Iowa and Nebraska, including: Alta, Papillion, Humboldt, Storm Lake, and finally in Marshalltown. Her extensive career began as a secretary in the Athletic Office at Buena Vista College. She began teaching music and art in 1951 and continued until her retirement in 1992. In 1976, Janet was honored as Teacher of the Year for the Council Bluffs Community School District and went on to be a finalist for Teacher of the Year for the State of Iowa that same year. During her years in music, Janet composed between 80-100 original songs that were used in both education and for performance. In addition to being an accomplished musician and teacher, Janet enjoyed traveling, refinishing antiques, making treasures out of throw away materials, genealogy, reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family and friends, as well as her Beagle, Dolly. Janet is survived by her son, Geoffrey Reginald Schive, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Eileen (Stehr) Schive, of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Gabriel Wayne Schive of Cedar Rapids, and Kallie Michele Schive of Marshalltown. Sister, Enid Eenie Peters, of California; sister-in-law, Coke Anderson; nephew, Kent Johnson; nieces: Angie (Todd) DeGooyer, Jeannette Raglen, Lori (John) Lane; nephews: Kendall Ken Peters, Curt (Lee) Peters, David Laurie) Anderson, Devin (Jackie) Anderson, and niece, Diana (Anderson) Southworth. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Nelma Anderson; brother, Keith Anderson; infant sister, Marlys Anderson; brother, Leland Jim Anderson; sister in law, JoAnne C. Jo Anderson; brother, Marvin Marv Anderson; brother, Lavern Pete Peters; sister, Esther Annette Auntie-nette (Anderson) Johnson; brother in law, Craig Johnson; and nephew, Mark Johnson.
