Born on February 11th, 1936, in Marshalltown, she was one of five children born to George and Gretchen (Maronda) Bulanek. She received her education in the Marshalltown Schools.
On May 28th, 1955, at Lancaster, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Ronald Hazen. They have made their home in Marshalltown all of their married lives. Janice was employed at Dick’s Laundromat on 13th Street and Miller Junior High for over 25 years in food service.
She enjoyed animals, especially her grand-dogs, teasing friends and family and sometimes being down-right ornery to her “favorites.” She also liked playing Solitaire, going for drives and rides, attending her great-grandchildren’s many activities and decorating for every holiday. Janice was officially the “neighborhood watch” before that term ever came into society. She also collected birdhouses and was known for giving people the occupants of those houses.
Left to cherish her memory is five children: Thelma Smith, Deborah (Richard) Fiser, Ronald Hazen, Jr., Bradford Hazen and Pamela Haines; 13 grandchildren: Heather (Mike) Wilson, Natalie Hazen, David Smith, Georgette Smith, Jessica Fiser, Rebecca Garcia, Josh Haines, Nate Kopel, Cody Kopel, Brad Hazen, Chad Lammert, Matt Ayers and Steve (Niki) Ayers; numerous great-grandchildren, as well as great-great grandchildren; her brother Jerry (Kathy) Bulanek and sister Joanne Curley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In death, Janice rejoined her beloved husband Ron, parents George and Gretchen, her son Art Ayers, son-in-law Russell Haines, sister Joyce (Clyde) Umbaugh and brother George (Bonnie) Bulanek.
