Janice (Jensen) Kunz, age 77 of State Center, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the Eldora Specialty Care Center.
Born Janice Kay Jensen on December 7, 1948, in Webster City, the daughter of Wallace and Barbara (Stein) Jensen. Janice graduated from Webster City High School.
On October 28, 1971, Janice was united in marriage with Elmer “Dean” Kunz Jr. in Webster City. Dean and Janice moved to Marshall County, where they raised three beautiful girls: Renee, Deanna, and Mindy.
Janice worked at Marshall County Food Services for over 25 years. In her free time, she enjoyed outdoor activities including flower gardening, camping, and fishing. Janice was an excellent baker and cook; she would trying new recipes with her family being the taste testers. Janice was kindhearted and generous to all she came in contact with. She was funny, ornery, and a prankster as well. Even in the recent years, she was very ornery to the staff at the care facility. Janice loved to give her daughters and grandchildren a hard time in the most loving way. She loved animals, especially her dog, Rusty.
In death, Janice is reunited with her parents; her husband, Dean, who passed away in 2019; her daughter, Renee Rollins; brother, Junior Jensen; and sister, Cindy Newman. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Mindy (Vernon) Braddy of State Center and Deanna Kunz of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Adrianne (Tim) Mann, Breanna Schroyer, Cody Braddy, and Levi Braddy; and great-grandchildren: Sophia and Elias Mann, and Jordan Schroyer. She is also survived by her siblings: Roger (Glenna) Jensen, Dale Jensen, Keith Jensen, and Christine Elliott; and her beloved four-legged companion, Rusty.
Per Janice’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at the Saratoga Cemetery in rural Hamilton County, IA. Memorial donations may be directed to the Family of Janice Kunz, P.O. Box 471, State Center, IA, 50247.
