Janice Irene Montgomery

Janice Montgomery, 79, of Clinton, Iowa, and formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the evening of January 9, 2022 at the Prairie Hills Care Center in Clinton, Iowa. Services for Janice will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home beginning at 2:00 P.M. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Janice Irene Cox was born September 27 1942 to parents Samuel and Thelma (Morrow) Cox in Richland, Iowa. She attended school in Richland and graduated in the class of 1961. Following high school, Janice began working for Savings and Loan as a bank teller. On January 6, 1968, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Donald “Don” Montgomery at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they moved to Marshalltown. Don and Janice had their son Daniel and then she began to work her greatest job, caring for her family. She was a longtime member of the Green Mountain United Church of Christ where she was involved within the woman’s group and always made sure that she received her monthly newsletters. In her free time she enjoyed a wide array of crafting projects such as sewing where she made her own wedding dress, crocheting, and ceramics. She loved to can what she grew in her gardens along with tending to her flowers each year. She loved to call Dan and was always focused on being the best mom and wife to care for her family. Left to remember and cherish her memory is her son, Daniel (Catherine) Montgomery of Clinton, Iowa; her siblings Carolyn (Ed) Knoot, Daryl (Verla) Cox, and James Cox; alongside numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Don; her parents Samuel and Thelma Cox; and her sibling Kathryn Cox and David Cox
