Janice M Olson, 95, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday morning, December 27, 2022 at the State Center Care Initiatives in State Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Daniel from Iowa River Church of the Brethren officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may attend a visitation at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. A luncheon will be served immediately after the service. Born March 18, 1927, at Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Edward and Reba (Rank) Howard. She attended Le Grand High School and graduated in May of 1944. On June 25th, 1944 she was united in marriage to Arnold Olson in Marshalltown at her parent’s home. The couple farmed near Dunbar until moving to a farm at State Center in 1956 and then moved to Marshalltown in 1979.
Janice was a homemaker and mother for most of her life and cared for the couple’s two children and worked on the farm. In 1988 she joined her daughter and son-in-law as an employee at the Doug Out Family Restaurant in State Center. She enjoyed working there for ten years. She loved to bake and always had cookies in the freezer for grandchildren and anyone who visited. She was a member of the Iowa River Church of the Brethren and Ladies Aid.
Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Dale (Sharon) Olson, Marshalltown, Julie (Doug) Riley of State Center, grandchildren; Sarah (Jason) Engler, Jennifer (Ryan) Pelzek, Lori Olson; all of Council Bluffs, Sarah Lynn (Mark) Davis, Marshalltown; Josh (Julie) Riley, Queen Creek, AZ; Stacy (Jason) Maiers, Elgin, IL; Brandon Riley, Raleigh, NC; great-grandchildren, Grace, Sophie and Cameron Engler; Shea, Jackson and Stella Riley. One brother, Max Howard of State Center and several nieces and nephews.
In death she has rejoined with her loving husband Arnold, brother Lloyd, her parents, Ed and Reba.
