Janice Smith 78, of Marshalltown, Iowa, entered into Eternal Life on Thursday, May 25, 2023 in the comfort of her own home under the care of Iowa River Hospice and surrounded by her loving family.
Services for Janice will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Memorials in Janice’s name may be directed to Elim Lutheran Church or Iowa River Hospice. Janice Lorea Wevik was born January 28, 1945 to parents Elmer “Pat” and Mildred (Rasmussen) Wevick in Beresford, South Dakota. She was one of three children in her family. Janice attended school in Beresford and graduated in the class of 1963. She attended college for administrative assistant work in Nettleton/Sioux Falls area through 1964.
Janice was the mother of two children, Michele and Timothy “Timmy.” She came to call Marshalltown, Iowa her home in 1965. Janice worked for Fisher Controls for 45 years as an administrative assistant and where would eventually retire. She worked part time for a number of years at JC Penny as a sales associate.
On July 2, 2005, Janice was united in marriage to the love of her life, Roger Smith in Beresford, South Dakota. Together they were members of Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Janice was involved in the Odd Fellows club in Grinnell, Iowa and the Rebekah’s in Des Moines, Iowa. In her free time, Janice enjoyed going to breakfast with the Fisher and JC Penny’s retirees. She also liked to do knitting and crocheting projects, playing cards, listening to music and going dancing with Roger. She loved to spend time with her family and attend the sporting events of her grandchildren.
Janice is survived by her husband, Roger Smith; her children, Michele (Jason Thompson) O’Connor and Christie (Richard) Allen; her grandchildren, Chelsea O’Connor, Tyler Finders, Zach Finders, and Steve Allen; her twin sister Jeanette Smolik; her niece Saretta (Alex) Smolik Cavasos; alongside many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her son, Timmy O’Connor; her parents Pat and Mildred Wevik; her brother Merle; nephew, Matthew Smolik; and mother-in-law Erma Smith.
