Janice T. Stevens, 76, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Mass of Christian burial for Janice will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 15, at the St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation for Janice will be at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 14, with a 6:30 PM Vigil service. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.comJanice was born August 12, 1934 in a farmhouse in the rural Gilbert, Iowa area, the daughter of Gordon Irving and Beatrice Weigel. She was raised in rural Story County on their family farm and graduated from Huxley High School. In the 1950s, Janice went to work for the Ames Laboratory, a United States Department of Energy National Laboratory. She held many positions during her time with the Laboratory and kept close to her the fact that she had attained Top Secret Clearance. It was during this time in her life that Janice met E. Roger Stevens at the Laboratory. They were married at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa on February 27, 1960. Following their marriage Janice stayed home with her family and raised her three sons Gordon, Max and Allen. Janice loved reading non-fiction books, watching the news and following politics. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers and spending time with family pets. Janice was an avid card player and truly enjoyed the time spent with her card groups. Janice was a member of the St. Henry Catholic Church.Janice is survived by her three sons: Gordon E. (Andrea) Stevens of Marshalltown, Max (Christine) Stevens of Grand Island, Nebraska and Allen (Jodi) Stevens of Marshalltown; her sisters Roberta (Ernie) Graham of Sun Lakes, Arizona and Mary Beth (Larry) Peake of Tennessee, her brother Max (Janice) Irving of New Mexico, her two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and her husband E. Roger Stevens in April of 2008.
