Janice Swanson passed away on Saturday, March 07, 2015, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Janice and her family. Phone 641-844-1234. Janice Norder was born on June 23, 1922, in Reinbeck, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Ethel Norder. She attended grade school in Clinton, Iowa, and graduated Marshalltown High School in 1939and went on to attend Evangelical School of Nursing graduating in 1943, and attended some graduate school at University of Dubuque and Drake University. On May 19, 1944, Janice was united in marriage to Lewis J. Swanson at Grace United Methodist Church by her grandfather Reverend Schluter. She had worked at both Mercy and Evangelical Hospitals and retired in 1987, after working as a school nurse for 19 years at Marshalltown High School. After retiring she had volunteered at MMSC and Iowa River Hospice. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and later joined Hope United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, and American Legion Auxiliary and MMSC Auxiliary. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Richard (Maria) Swanson of Albuquerque, New Mexico their daughter, Elena and Randall (Marcia) Swanson of Cedar Falls, Iowa, their children, Jeremy(Megan), Nicholas and Kacie and daughter Nancy (Larry) Reilly of Waterloo, Iowa, and their children Matthew(Sarah), Michelle(Fred) and Christopher(Lisa)and great-grandchildren, Sadie, Kyzer, Prudence, Liam, Declan, Finn, Hayden and Walker, a sister Mary Alice Groff of Marshalltown, Iowa and a brother Earl (Valerie) Norder of Irving, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis in 1976, and her parents, Earl and Ethel Norder, brother-in-law, Robert Groff and sister-in-law, Garita Norder.
