Janice Waltemeyer, age 52, of Marshalltown, passed away surrounded by her loving family on the morning of December 6, 2024 at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Per wishes of Janice, cremation rites have been accorded and no formal services will be held at this time. A family led celebration of life will take place at a later date to be announced. Memorials in Janice’s name may be directed to her family for a later designation. Janice Eileen Riggins was born on January 23, 1972 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the only child of Robert and Karolyn (Kopel) Riggins but had a sister from a previous marriage that she was raise alongside. Janice attended school in Marshalltown where she grew up.
Janice started working as a CNA while her children, Nikki and CJ were younger. She had a deep passion doing so. She became a homemaker and cared for her family while also working part time. She always kept her hometown here in Marshalltown and she chose Marshalltown to raise her children. On September 17, 2006, she was united in marriage to Earl Waltemeyer. He welcomed Janice’s children into his life with open arms. In her free time, Janice took part in a CB radio group and local dart leagues. She additionally enjoyed going in the spring and early summer to the races alongside Earl. They would together frequent the local roads to go asparagus hunting. Her favorite thing was being a grandma and she spent all the time that she was able to do so with her grandchildren. She passed time by fishing with Earl and watching a wide array of television shows some of her favorites being, Walker Texas Ranger, Homeland, Charmed and anything to do with true crime dramas.
Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her husband of 18 years, Earl Waltemeyer; her children, Nikki (Matt) Adelmund and CJ Burrell; her grandchildren, Laycee Adelmund, Aaron Adelmund and Kadance Adelmund; her sister, Lisa (Dan) Starn; sister-in-law, Paula (Troy) Dunsmoor; uncle, Rick Kopel and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Karolyn Riggins; her grandparents Joe and Marie (Talbert) Kopel;aunt, Francis Kopel and her mother and father-in-law, Marilyn (Ed) Tordoff.
