Jason Spurlin, 43, of State Center, died Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Visitation for Jason will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Jasons request was that his family and friends attend his funeral in casual attire, wearing either Green Bay Packers, Iowa Hawkeye, West Marshall Football or any of his former band t-shirts. A private family burial will take place at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery in State Center. Memorial contributions may be directed in Jasons name to his family. Jason was born September 15, 1969, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of David and Linda (Case) Spurlin. He attended the Marshalltown School System and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1988. Following high school Jason was employed with Wehrman Optical until 1996. He went on to work for Web Electric until 2002, and then spent three years with Nichol & Associates. He returned to Web Electric in 2005. Jason was currently employed with Balvanz Electric. Jason was united in marriage to Trish Davis on September 24, 2004, in State Center, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home in State Center. Jason loved music and was lead guitar and vocals in his bands: Void, The Difference, Electric Barnyard, Pickle Brick, Rear View and Kerosene. Jason is survived by his wife Trish Spurlin of State Center, his children: Tanner Spurlin, Jacey Spurlin and Colton Mason, his mother Linda (Virgil) Klaas of Clemons, his sister Kristy Gray of Des Moines, his brother-in-law Donnie Davis of Macomb, Illinois, his step-sister Mychelle (Kent) Dickenson of Beaman, his step-brothers: Kevin Klaas of Lincolntown, North Carolina, Kerry (Patty) Klaas of Marshalltown, Justin Klaas of Marshalltown and Jay (Tara) Klaas of Marshalltown, his grandmothers: Ruth Spurlin of Union, Iowa and Pat Spurlin of Eldora, Iowa. Jason was preceded in death by his father Danny Spurlin in 1976, his grandfather Lyle Spurlin, his grandparents Mainard and Betty Case, his grandparents Bud and Virginia Davis and his special warrior friend in their battle against cancer Janice Davidson.
