Jay Smith

Jay W Smith, 77, of Ferguson, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

Jay Smith was born on October 30, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska to Duane and Edith (Little) Smith. Jay served his country honorably in the United States Army. He had previously been married, and later divorced to Ila Mae Foster and Peggy Ann Kennedy. He then was united in marriage to Carroll Phillippi in Council Bluffs Iowa. Jay had been employed as a heavy equipment operator and over the road truck driver. He liked to “tinker” with things, work on cars and was just an overall handyman.

Jay is survived by his children: Jason (Julie) Smith of Sheldon, Iowa, William Joseph Smith of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Tammy Elmborg of Omaha, Nebraska. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and his siblings: Jack Smith and Duane Smith.

Jay is preceded in death by his wife, Carroll; parents: Duane and Edith and siblings: Jim, Joyce, Janet, Judy and Edith Lynn Smith.
