Jean Anne Sand Anderson, 79, of Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Marshalltown, formerly of Laurel, died Thursday, July16, 2009. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haverhill, Iowa. Visitation will be held Monday, July 20, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. vigil at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Ave West in Marshalltown, Iowa. Jean was born August 3, 1929 to Fridolin and Adeline (Bischof) Sand in Nebraska City, Nebraska. She graduated from Nehawka, Ne. High School in 1946. After graduation she attended the University of Nebraska, Mt. St. Joseph Jr. College in Maple Mount, Kentucky, and later graduated from Buena Vista in 1977 with a bachelors degree in elementary education. Jean married Lyman Eric Anderson on February 8, 1949 in St. Marys Catholic Church in Nebraska City, Nebraska. She had lived in Nehawka, Nebraska until 1956, then resided in Phoenix, Arizona, Fort Dodge, Marshalltown and Laurel, Iowa. Jean had been employed by Motorola, the Public School and the Public Library in Fort Dodge, and Sears, retiring in 1998. Jean enjoyed gardening, sewing, volunteering at the Laurel Library, but most of all she enjoyed her children and her grandchildren. She was a member of the Marshalltown Garden Club, St Monica Society, and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haverhill. Left to cherish Jeans memory are her children, Sonia (Dick) Cepel of Kearney, Nebraska, Greg (Anne) Anderson of Poqouson, Virginia, Marcia Bradley of Des Moines, Iowa, Kipp (Ethel) Anderson of Stillwater, Kansas, Dorene Rusk of Creston, Iowa, Brian (Angela) Anderson and Norman(Lana) Anderson, both of Laurel, Iowa, eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, Jeans sisters Catherine Zech of Douglas, Nebraska, Patricia Sloan of Ft Garland, Colorado and a brother Robert Sand of Olympia Washington. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyman in 1997, and her siblings Dorothy Sand, Peggy Nabity and Paul Sand.
