Jean Bigelow, 70, of Marshalltown passed away at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa on May 22, 2019.    A memorial service for Jean will be held on Monday, June 3rd at 5:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A brief visitation will be held from 4:00 until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to the University of Iowa Stead Children’s Hospital in Jean’s name. The family also encourages those in attendance to come dressed casual or in Iowa Hawkeye attire. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Jean and her family.    Jean was born December 14, 1948, the first child of Wayne and Delores (Carmody) Jones. She was raised in the Zearing area and graduated from NESCO High School in 1967. She began working at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in 1969 as an LPN and remained employed until her retirement from the state in 2003. After retiring from the Iowa Veterans Home, she began working part time at the Zearing health care center in her home town. Jean was blessed with one child, her beloved daughter Kelley, her best friend who she loved from the depths of her soul.    Jean will be remembered for her beautiful and wicked sense of humor, her love for family, and friends along with Iowa Hawkeyes and country musicLeft to cherish her memory is her daughter Kelley (Bruce) Rook of Beaman, Iowa; one stepson Greyland Bigelow two grandchildren Sadie and Mya Rook; her sister Becky Jones of Ames; sister-in-law Marla Kremer; best friends Betty, Jeanie, Starre, Nina, and Jean; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved pet bird Smokey.    In death, Jean rejoins her loving husband Kenneth Bigelow; parents Wayne and Delores Jones; and three brothers Dean, Bob, and Bill.
