Jean Eige, 94 of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Opal Jean Baker was born November 11, 1920, in Omaha, Nebraska to parents George and Nina (Strickler) Baker joining two sisters, Grace and Gayle. The family later moved to Rhodes, Iowa, and Jean graduated from Rhodes High School. She later graduated from Central Iowa Business College in Marshalltown. On September 1, 1940, she married Norman Eige at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. While Norman served in the Navy, they lived in Rhode Island, Idaho, and California before returning to Marshalltown to build a house. A daughter, Judy, and son, Dennis, were born to their family. Jean worked as a stenographer, secretary to Marshall County Nurses Office, and a para educator for the Marshalltown Schools. She enjoyed leading Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts for several years. She loved nature, camping, bird watching, craft and bridge groups. She especially loved sunshine and that was reflected in her attitude toward everyone she met. Jean was active for many years in First United Methodist Church Circles, DAR, Garden Club, and Marshall County Ornithologists. Left to cherish Jeans memory are her two children: Judith (John) Rundall and Dennis (Lois) Eige, both of Marshalltown, Nine grandchildren; Patrick (Lynne) Rundall, Kirk (Roberta) Rundall, Adam (Marianne) Rundall, Ryan (Diane) Rundall, Phillip (Tammy) Rundall, Erin (Tony) Schuller, Darrin (Heather) Eige, Andrew Eige, Christine Eige and 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents, George and Nina and two sisters, Grace (James) Wignall and Gayle (Carroll) Diggins.
