Jennie Louise Powers, age 96, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on November 29, 2024, at Harmony of Marshalltown surrounded by her loving family.
Per the wishes of Jennie and her family, cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial service by the family for Jennie will be held on May 9, 2025 at 10:30 am at Hope United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to Hope United Methodist Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the family. Jennie Louise (Hoover) Powers was born December 25, 1927, at the St. Thomas Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harvey H. Hoover and Jenny K. Aman. Jennie attended Marshalltown High School until eleventh grade in 1944. Later she went back to finish her education, receiving her GED at age 62.
On June 15, 1945, Jennie married the love of her life, Jerrold Deverne Powers in Nevada, Iowa. During her working career, she held various part-time positions, but being a housewife and a mother was the most important job of all. Some of the part-time jobs that she held included home typist for the Donnley Corporation, distribution supervisor for the Penny Saver/ TR newspaper, and lastly, the Marshalltown School Food Service until her retirement.
She was a faithful member of Hope United Methodist Church and an honorary member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. In her free time, Jennie enjoyed reading a good book and playing board games or cards. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Jennie was known for having a sweet tooth and never turning down a tasty donut.
She is survived by her daughters: Judy (Rich) Amendt and Janet Keller, both of Marshalltown, IA, and Janean (Harlan) Benjegerdes of Manly, IA; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister Shirley Slingluff of Marshalltown, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jennie is preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her parents, and her son-in-law, Ron Keller.
