Born on March 21st, 1941, in Marshalltown, Jerry was the son of Elmer and Pearl (Hughes) Steinberg. He grew up in the Liscomb community and graduated from the Liscomb High School. Jerry was active playing basketball for the school. On June 29th, 1961, he was united in marriage to Jo Anne Eichorn at the Bethel Grove Church south of Liscomb. They made their home in Marshalltown and then south of Albion. He began his working career at Lennox in the foundry, Marshalltown Manufacturing and retired from Fisher Controls. He was also employed at Central Iowa Machine Shop and a machine shop in Eldora. One of Jerry’s talents was sharpening knives. Many friends and acquaintances called upon him for a knife so sharp they could take the hair off their arm! If Jerry was not home or working, you could bet he was hunting or fishing. Many times he caught or shot the family meal for that evening. He had a knack for finding the perfect fishing hole and had a saying “don’t fish if the cows are sleeping.” A saying that held true. He enjoyed trap-shooting and sharp-shooting, his black labs, simply being outdoors and the time with his family (especially his grandchildren). Left to cherish his memory are Jo Anne, his loving wife of 58 years; two sons- Mike of Austin, MN and David of Albion: two grandchildren- Ben of Albion and Winter of St. Louis (currently a student in Columbia, MO), sister-in-law Jean Garrett of Marshalltown, and many other family and friends. In death, Jerry rejoined his parents; and two brothers, Irvin and Lavern Steinberg, which Lavern will be laid to rest with Jerry at Riverside Cemetery.
